Seollal (Lunar New Year) and Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) are 3-day holidays when much of the country travels —
intercity trains and flights sell out weeks ahead, and many restaurants close on the day itself.
Labor Day (May 1) applies to private-sector employees: banks close, but government offices stay open.
When a holiday lands on a weekend, a substitute holiday (the next weekday) usually applies.
